The growth and popularity of modern orthodox and even more traditional communities in recent decades seems to belie the claim that Jews are leaving their tradition, ritual, and halacha behind them in the 21st Century. What attracts young families, professionals and all ages all over North America to the synagogues and communities which identify as orthodox? What do thousands of university educated individuals many of whom were not raised in 'religious' homes find in traditional practice and learning that buoys them to commit to a lifestyle shunned by so many others?
