Benjamin Rubin

Benjamin Rubin is a Toronto lawyer by trade. Under his pen name, eBenBrandeis, he composes poetry, lyrics and YouTube video poems. He has edited and published a book of contemporary Jewish humor; translated from Hebrew an autobiography of life in pre-war Pinsk, Poland; was the creator of NewHouseOfIsrael.net, an online Zionist conceptual art project; and served as Festival Chair of Limmud Toronto 2018. Having lived in Israel for four years, and fluent in Hebrew, he maintains an ongoing interest in Israeli contemporary music. Arising out of his passionate interest in the Golden Age of Hebrew poets from medieval Spain, he is writing a book about the 12th century Hebrew poet and philosopher, Yehuda HaLevi, travelling through time, visiting current day Toronto: the adventures and challenges that he experiences, the characters he meets, and the observations and arguments that he makes.
