Nora Gold

Dr. Nora Gold is a writer, activist, and the creator and editor of the prestigious online literary journal, Jewish Fiction .net. Her latest novel, The Dead Man, won a Translation Grant from Canada Council for the Arts and will be published soon in Hebrew in Israel. Her Fields of Exile (2014) won the 2015 Canadian Jewish Literary Award, and Marrow and Other Stories won a 1999 Canadian Jewish Book Award and praise from Alice Munro.

Previously a tenured social work professor, in 2000 Gold became an Associate Scholar at the Centre for Women’s Studies in Education at OISE/University of Toronto, and from 2012-2018 she was also its Writer-in-Residence. There she created the renowned Wonderful Women Writers Reading Series, which she still runs, now at the Toronto Public Library.

As an academic, Gold (with research grants from SSHRC) conducted research on antisemitism, Jewish women, and mental health. As Editor-in-chief of Jewish Fiction .net, she has published 380 works of Jewish fiction from around the world, either written in English or translated from 16 languages, and never before published in English. As an activist, she has founded or co-founded the New Israel Fund of Canada, Canadian Friends of Givat Haviva, and JSpaceCanada.
